CHILDREN’S HEALTH

All of the doctors in Westmount clinic have worked in hospital paediatrics and have a wealth of experience caring for children and advising parents in a primary care setting.We are able to provide you with all childhood vaccinations and other children’s health services. Vaccines are provided free of charge from the HSE. See immunisation.ie for the schedule of vaccinations.

PREGNANCY CARE

At Westmount clinic we are delighted to look after all your pregnancy needs. We are involved with the combined antenatal care programme which is shared care between your GP and the antenatal clinic/obstetrician.Under the Maternity and Infant Care scheme, women attend their GP free of charge for pregnancy check ups, involving a specific number of visits which alternates with appointments with the maternity hospital/obstetrician.

Combined antenatal care also includes a check up for the baby at 2 weeks and both mother and baby for a 6 week check up after the baby is born.

FAMILY PLANNING

We are happy to advise patients on types and suitability of various contraceptive methods. These methods include a full range of contraceptive advice including all methods of contraception. Our doctors can also provide insertion and removal of Implanon (implant) and Mirena coil devices where appropriate.

SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED INFECTION (STI) SCREENING

At Westmount clinic we offer comprehensive screening tests for STI’s. Our staff are highly trained and will deal with you in a respectful sensitive manner. All consultations are highly confidential.

CERVICAL SCREENING/SMEAR TESTS

We are registered with Cervical Check – the National Cervical Screening Programme – for provision of Cervical Cancer Screening (smear tests).

These are available free of charge if you are currently due a smear test (every 3 years for women age 25-45, every 5 years from age 45-60). This test is to detect early pre-cancerous changes in the cervix (neck of the womb). The earlier a change is found the easier it is to treat successfully.

To have this free test register with cervicalcheck.ie or phone cervicalcheck on 1850 45 45 55. You will then be given a cervical screening ID number. Then make an appointment by phoning the surgery. You will need to bring your PPSN and/or cervical screening programme ID number to your appointment with you.

MINOR SURGERY

We perform some minor surgery procedures in the clinic, avoiding the need to visit the hospital. These include Ingrown toe nail removal, Suturing to cuts and lacerations, Wart and verruca removal (Cryotherapy).

TRAVEL VACCINATIONS

A comprehensive travel medicine service is available to our patients with the most up to date information and practices in preventative medicine for the traveller. If you are planning a trip abroad where you think you may need vaccines, it is important that you discuss your vaccine requirements early in your planning as some of them need to be administered over a few months if there are to be truly effective before you travel. We would be delighted to discuss this further with you at your appointment.

SEASONAL FLU VACCINATIONS

Westmount clinic provides the annual flu vaccination.

CHRONIC DISEASE MANAGEMENT

We offer Chronic Disease Management which includes: Asthma Care, COPD, Diabetes Care and Heart Care. We use the most recent HSE/ICGP guidelines to guide our management of these diseases. We aim to help you manage your disease effectively so that you can maximise your health and enjoy feeling as well as possible.

WELL WOMAN OR WELL MAN CHECK

Should you wish to have a check-up of your health at any stage during your life, we can arrange a 30-minute appointment where we can perform a ‘health-check’ review of your medical history and highlight areas that need to be looked at given your stage in life. We can then tailor a range of tests that are appropriate to your needs. Please inform the secretary that a ‘well-woman or well man check’ is what you require as we need to make arrangements for a longer appointment time.
